Cleaning.
WARNING
Clean all parts in a well-ventilated
area. Avoid inhalation of solvent
fumes and prolonged exposure of
skin to cleaning solvent. Wash
exposed
skin
thoroughly.
Dry
cleaning solvent (Fed. Spec. P-D-680)
used to clean parts is potentially
dangerous
to
personnel
and
property. Do not use near open
flame or excessive heat. Flash point
of solvent is 100 to 138° F. (38 to 590
C).
(1)
Clean
metal
parts
with
cleaning
solvent, Fed. Spec. P-D-680, and dry thoroughly.
(2)
Clean
other
parts
with
dry
compressed air and a dry cloth.
d.
Inspection and Repair.
(1)
Test all components using multimeter
test as listed in paragraph 2-6.
(2)
Inspect all parts for damage.
(3)
Straighten
bent
contact
fingers;
replace a defective finger block, drum, or spring.
(4)
Replace any missing hardware and
replace drum assembly screen and record if damaged.

Assembly.
(1)
Install the bracket (50, fig. 6-2, sheet
2 of 2) in the case (51) and secure with lockwashers (40)
and capscrews (48).
(2)
Install the drum drive motor (47) and
secure with lockwashers (46) and screws (45).
(3)
Install the bushing (44) and clutch hub
(43).
(4)
Install the washer (42), spring (41)
and screw (40).
(5)
Secure the drive drum head (39) and
secure the clutch hub (43) to the motor shaft with
setscrews (37 and 38).
(6)
Install the handle (35) in the record
lock (34), then install the record lock assembly (33) in
the drum (36).
(7)
Install the drum head (32), then install
the washer (31) and spring (30) on the drum head shaft.
(8)
Install the screen (29) and record (28)
on the drum.
(9)
Install the drum assembly (27).
(10)
Install the bushing (25), rollers (24)
and knob hub (23) into the knob (26), secure the knob
unit to the drum head shaft with setscrew (22).
(11)
Install the finger contacts (20, fig. 6-2,
sheet 1 of 2) on the finger box (21) and secure with
screws (19).
(12)
Install the block number tape (18) on
the finger box and secure with screws (17).
(13)
Install the clip (16) and secure with
lockwasher (15) and screws (14).
(14)
Install the washers (13).
(15)
Install the finger handle (12) on the
finger box (21) and secure with setscrew (11).
(16)
Install the finger handle (10).
(17)
Install the lift stud (9) and pin (8).
(18)
Install the pin (7) and contact support
(6).
(19)
Install the finger box unit and secure
the contact support (6) with lockwashers (5) and
capscrews (4).
(20)
Install the lift lock (3) on the contact
support.

Installation.
(1)
Install the formatrol assembly in the
control box and secure with lockwashers (2, fig. 6-2,
sheet 1 of 2) and screws (1).
(2)
Reconnect all wiring.
(3)
Install the control box door (2, fig. 6-1)
and secure with latches (1).

CONTROL BOX
a.
Removal.
(1)
Release the latches (1, fig. 6-1) and
remove the control box cover (2).
(2)
Remove the screws (1, fig. 6-3) and
remove the cover (2) from the conduit receptacle (3).
(3)
Remove the screws (4) and remove
the cover (5) from the junction box (6).
(4)
Tag and disconnect the wires (7 and
8) from components within the control box assembly
(20).
(5)
Remove the screws (9) and remove
the cover (10) from the junction box (11).
(6)
Tag and disconnect the wires (12),
back-off connectors (13) and remove wires.
(7)
Remove
the
bolts
(14)
and
lockwashers (15) securing the control box assembly (20)
to the hose guard.
(8)
Remove the nuts (16), washers (17),
bolts (18) and lockwashers (19) and remove the control
panel assembly (20) from the trailer.
