Cleaning.
WARNING
Clean all parts in a well-ventilated
area. Avoid inhalation of solvent
fumes and prolonged exposure of
skin to cleaning solvent. Wash
exposed
skin
thoroughly
.Dry
cleaning solvent Fed. Spec.) used to
clean parts is ,potentially dangerous
to personnel find property. Do not
use near open flame or excessive
heat. Flash point of solvent is 100
to 138F. ( 38 to 59 CO.
Clean all parts of the tumbler air heater with
cleaning solvent, Fed. Spec. P-D-680, and dry
thoroughly.
d.
Inspection.
(1)
Inspect all parts of the tumbler air
heater for dents, cracks, nicks, deep scores, and other
damage.
(2)
Inspect the gaskets for tears, pitting,
and excessive wear.
(3)
Inspect
all
hardware
for
thread
damage.
e.
Repair.
(1)
Straighten any dents, and weld any
cracks in the tumbler air heater.
(2)
Replace all missing or damaged
gaskets and hardware.

Assembly.
(1)
Install air return box number 5 (36,
fig. 315) to air return box number 4 (35), air return box
number 3 (34) to air return box number 4 (35) air return
box number 2 (33) to air return box number 3 (34) and
air return box number 1 (32) to air return box number 2
(33).
(2)
Install burner mounting plate (31) to
air return box number 1 (32).
(3)
Position air return box cover gaskets
(30) in place and install covers (29) with washers (28)
and bolts (27).
(4)
Install
the
air
return
boxes
to
mounting plate (26).
(5)
Install the fuel line bracket (25) on the
mounting plate and secure with lockwashers (23 and 24)
and bolt (22).
(6)
Install the fuel line clamps (21) onto
the fuel line bracket (25) and secure with bolt (20),
lockwasher (19) and nut (18).
(7)
Position the air heater hood (17) on
the mounting plate (26) and secure with lockwashers
(16) and nuts (15).
(8)
Install the coverplate (14) on the hood
secure with lockwashers (13) and bolts (12).
(9)
Install the back-up plate (11) and
strut (10) on the air heater hood and secure with bolts
(9), flatwashers (8) and nuts (7).
(10) Install the air heater covers (6) on the
hood and secure with lockwashers (5) and bolts (4).
(11) Install the screen (3) on the hood and
secure with lockwashers (2) and screws (1).
g.
Installation.
(1)
Using a suitable hoist, position the air
heater (7, fig. 3-14) on the dryer-tumbler, secure the
strut (6) to the trailer with bolts (5), lockwashers (4) and
nuts (3).
(2)
Secure the air heater (7) to the dryer
tumbler with lockwashers (2) and bolts (1).

Dryer-Tumbler
a.
Removal.
(1)
Tag and disconnect all lines and
electrical wiring from the dryer-tumbler.
(2)
Remove the nut (1, fig. 3-16),
lockwashers (2), bolts (3), lockwashers (4) and
flatwashers (5) securing the exhaust motor belt guard
(6) to the trailer.
(3)
Tag and disconnect all wiring going to
the exhaust motor (12).
(4)
Tag and disconnect the conduit going
to the exhaust motor.
(5)
Remove the v-belt.
(6)
Remove nuts (7), lockwashers (8),
flatwashers (9), bolts (10) and lockwashers (11) securing
the exhaust motor (12) to the trailer.
(7)
Remove the screws (13) securing the
support strut to the trailer.
(8)
Remove nuts (14), lockwashers (15),
flatwashers (16), lockwashers (17), bolts (18) and
lockwashers (19) securing the dryer-tumbler (20) to the
trailer.
(9)
Using a suitable hoist, remove the
dryer tumbler (20) from the trailer..
