The fighting load carrier is a one-size item. It consists of two load panels constructed of an olive drab 107 nylon
raschel knit cloth (mesh) conforming to MIL-C-8061 (1). The edges of the panels are secured with 1-inch binding
tape conforming to MIL-T-5038 (2) using Size E Thread conforming to V-T-295 (3). Binding tape (2) is also used
to edge the top and bottom of the load panels. Diagonally cut 3 ½ -inch upper webbing conforming to MIL-W-
17337 (4) are sewn to the top of the load panels with 1-inch web strap loops conforming to MIL-STD-43668 (5)
securing 1-inch slide buckles conforming to ITW P/N 00648-09 (6). Two 1-inch web straps (5) are sewn to the
front of the panels and connect using 1-inch side release buckles conforming to drawing 5-4-47 (81337) (7). Eight
horizontally sewn 1-inch web straps (5) provide attachment points for a variety of pouches. The straps are
bartacked using Size E Thread (3) at 1½-inch intervals. The lower edge of the load panels are sewn to an
approximately 6-inch-wide and 14-inch long belt cover constructed of nylon duck cloth conforming to MIL-C-43734
(8). Pockets constructed of raschel knit cloth (1) line the back of the covers. The pockets are edged using 1-inch
binding tape (2). Closure tabs constructed of 2-inch nylon webbing conforming to MIL-W-17337 (8) and 1-inch-
wide hook and pile fastener conforming to MIL-F-21840G (9) are sewn to the top of the tunnel and pocket flaps.
Two-inch nylon webbing (8) is also used to join the lengths of 3.5-inch upper webbing (4) to form a handle. A belt
is inserted through the load panel tunnels and bartacked to the webbing using Size E Thread (3). Suspender
straps of 1-inch webbing (5) attach to the 1-inch slide buckles (6) located on the upper edge of the belt. (See
Figure 27-1). Except as indicated above, the load-bearing vest is constructed using Size F Thread conforming to
V-T-295 (10). Keepers made of 1-inch elastic webbing conforming to PD-02-02 are attached to the suspender
straps. A side-release buckle conforming to drawing 5-10-47 (81337) (7) permits adjustment of the front closure
strap.
