The main pack and its components are constructed of textured nylon duck cloth conforming to MIL-C-43734 (1)
with a clear polyurethane backing. It consists of a map case, a front pocket, a spindrift collar, and removable radio
pocket, bandoleer ammo pouch, and sustainment pouches. The Main Packs 6½-inch-wide spindrift collar is made
of nylon cloth conforming to MIL-C-43128 (2). A tunnel around the top of the collar contains a flat draw cord
conforming to MIL-C-5040G, Type IIA (3) that exits the tunnel through two eyelets/washers conforming to MIL-E-
20652/1B and MIL-E-20652 (4), respectively. The collar is closed with a cord lock conforming to drawing 2-6-103
(81337) (5). A second, but round, draw cord, conforming to MIL-C-5040G, Type II, is located at the top of the
Main Pack (6), exiting through grommets/washers conforming to MIL-G-16491F (7), and closing with a single cord
lock (5). The edges of the map case cover as well as those of the non-reflective slide-in nametag holder are
secured with 1-inch binding tape conforming to MIL-T-5038 (8), using Size E Thread conforming to V-T-295 (9).
The inside of the map case cover is lined with a clear film conforming to L-P-378 (10), forming a pocket that is
closed with 1-inch hook and pile fastener tape conforming to MIL-F-21840G (11). The front pocket is sewn to the
back of the pack and closes with a black plastic chain slide fastener conforming to PD-02-02 (12).
The bandoleer pouch construction includes three basic material pleats that form separate pockets. Pocket covers
are made of a double strand of 3-inch webbing conforming to MIL-W-4088K">MIL-W-4088 (13) with an eyelet/stud type snap
fastener conforming to drawing 4-1-178 (81337) (14) at the center. The top of the radio pocket, the edges of the
bandoleer ammo pouch, and the cover of the sustainment pouch are secured with 1-inch binding tape (8) using
Size E Thread (9).
1-inch webbing conforming to MIL-W-43668 (15) is used on all main pack components for attachment straps,
carrying handles on the bandoleer pouch, and cinch straps on the radio pouch. Sewn horizontally onto the main
pack and front pocket they are bartacked, using Size E Thread (9) to provide attachment points for a variety of
equipment. A nametag holder with a 0.020 thick clear polyethylene window (16) is sewn to the lower rear panel of
the main pack. 1-inch webbing material is also used for retaining 1-inch D-Rings conforming to ITW P/N 110-0100
(17), side release buckles conforming to drawing 5-10-47 (81337) (18), slide buckles conforming to drawing 2-6-
102 (81337) (19), double bar buckles conforming to drawing 2-6-101 (81337) (20), and metal loops conforming to
MIL-L-11075F (21) on the main pack and its components. Plastic stiffeners cut of 0.030 thick clear polyethylene
are sewn to the sustainment pouch attachment straps (22). A 15-inch long strip of 2 ¼-inch-wide nylon webbing
conforming to MIL-W-4088K">MIL-W-4088K (23) is sewn to the lower rear of the Main Pack and bartacked to form attaching
points. The slide fastener thong on the front pocket is made of 11/32-inch black nylon webbing conforming to MIL-
B-371F (24). Two single bar buckles conforming to Duraflex PN 5425 (25) are attached to the each side of the
main pack. Snap fastener button/sockets conforming to MS 27980-1B and MS27980-6B, respectively are installed
at the upper corners of the Bandoleer Pouch (26). The main pack, radio pocket, sustainment pouch, and front
pocket have drain holes on the bottom that are finished with eyelets conforming to MIL-E-20652/1B (27). 1-inch
Ladderloc type buckles conforming to drawing 2-6-101A (28) are sewn to the ends of the horizontal cinch straps
on the radio pocket and internal web straps of the radio pocket. Two pieces of elastic webbing keepers
conforming to MIL-W-5664D (29) are located on the main pack straps. Except as indicated above, the main pack,
sustainment pouch, and radio pouch are constructed using Size F Thread conforming to V-T-295 (30).
