Cleaning.
WARNING
Clean all parts in a well-ventilated
area. Avoid inhalation of solvent
fumes and prolonged exposure of
skin to cleaning solvent. Wash
exposed
skin
thoroughly.
Dry
cleaning solvent (Fed. Spec. P-D-680)
used to clean parts is potentially
dangerous
to
personnel
and
property. Do not use near open
flame or excessive heat. Flash point
of solvent is 100 to 138F. (38 to 59C.).
Clean parts with cleaning solvent, Fed. Spec. PD-
680, and dry thoroughly.

Inspection.
(1)
Inspect the drain valve flange, body,
box and air cylinder for cracks, chips, dents, scores and
other damage.
(2)
Inspect the gaskets and seals for
tears, pits, cracks and other leak causing conditions.
(3)
Inspect the drain valve shaft and
levers for cracks, burrs, chips and other damage.
(4)
Inspect the drain valve disc for
cracks, chips, holes and warpage.
(5)
Inspect
all
hardware
for
thread
damage.

Repair.
(1)
Replace all damaged gaskets, seals
and hardware.
(2)
Repair of minor damage to the drain
valve system's parts if possible, but replacement is
recommended in most cases.

Assembly and Installation.
(1)
Position new gasket (78, fig. 7-6,
sheet 3 of 3) and install seat (77) and seal (76).
(2)
Install spring (75) and nut (74).
(3)
Install body (73) and secure with
washers (72) and screws (71).
(4)
Install tube (70) in body (73) and
secure with clamp (69).
(5)
Install plate (68) to the body, and
secure it with screws (67).
(6)
Install fitting (66) in body.
(7)
Install body (65) and secure it with
washers (64) and screws (63).
(8)
Install lever guide assembly (62).
(9)
Install adapter (61).
(10)
Install elbow (60).
(11)
Assemble tubing (57) with nut (59)
and tubing (58).
(12)
Install tube assembly and secure it
with clamp (56) and screw assembled washers (56).
(13)
Install collar (53, fig. 7-6, sheet 2 of 3)
and pad (52).
(14)
Install retainer (51) and screws (50).
(15)
Assemble rod (54); install seal (49),
retainer (48), and nut (47).
(16)
Position a new gasket (45) on cylinder
(46).
(17)
Install the lower head (44) on the
cylinder.
(18)
Install upper head (43) on cylinder
and secure it in place with setscrew (42).
(19)
Install washer (41).
(20)
Install yoke (40) and secure it in place
with setscrew (39).
(21)
Install the oil cup (38) in the upper
head (43).
(22)
Install the air cylinder assembly (37,
fig. 7-6, sheet 1 of 3) and secure to bracket (35) with pin
(36).
(23)
Secure bracket (35) with lockwashers
(34) and capscrews (33).
(24)
Install the nut (32) and setscrew (31).
(25)
Install the drain valve operating lever
(29) onto the shaft (30) and secure with pins (28).
(26)
Install the cam lever (27) and secure
with setscrew (26) and pin (25).
(27)
Install the gasket (24) and cover (23)
on the cam lever housing (16) and secure with
lockwashers (22) and screws (21).
(28)
Install the drain dog (20) on the shaft
(30) and secure with pin (19), then install the lever
support (18).
(29)
Install the gasket (17) and cam lever
housing (16) and secure with lockwashers (15) and
capscrews (14).
(30)
Install the shaft support (13) and
secure with screws (12), lockwashers (11) and nuts (10).
(31)
Install the knob (9) and nut (8) on the
drain lever (7).
(32)
Install the drain lever (7).
(33)
Connect the air cylinder assembly
(37) with the drain valve operating lever (29) and secure
with pin (6) and cotter pins (5).

Install the adapter (4) and elbow (3)
on the cam lever housing (16).
