Cleaning.
WARNING
Clean all parts in a well-ventilated
area. Avoid inhalation of solvent
fumes and prolonged exposure of
skin to cleaning solvent. Wash
exposed
skin
thoroughly.
Dry
cleaning solvent (Fed. Spec. P-D-
680) used to clean parts is potentially
dangerous
to
personnel
and
property. Flash point of solvent is
100 to 138F. (38 to 59C. ).
(1)
Clean all metal parts with cleaning
solvent, Fed. Spec. P-D-680, and dry thoroughly.
(2)
Clean the non-metallic parts with dry
compressed air and a clean cloth.
c.
Inspection and Repair.
(1)
Inspect all parts for wear, defects and
damage.
(2)
Replace
all
worn,
defective
and
damaged parts.
d.
Assembly.
(1)
Install the gasket (12, fig. 7-22) and
upper cylinder head (11), on the air cylinder tube (13).
(2)
Install the piston collar (9), lubricator
(8), gasket (7) and cup (6) onto the rod (10) and secure
with nut (5), then install the rod unit in the air cylinder
tube.
(3)
Install the lower cylinder head (4) and
secure with setscrew (3).
(4)
Install the rod end piston (2) onto the
rod (10) and secure with setscrew (1).

Main Bearing Assembly
a.
Removal and Disassembly.
(1)
Disassembly the grease tubing (1, fig.
7 23). Remove elbow (2), connector (3), and bushing
(4).
(2)
Remove fitting (5) from drop elbow
(8); remove screws (6) and washers (7) securing drop
elbow, and remove the elbow (8).
(3)
Remove screws (9) and washers (10)
securing main bearing housing (39); remove the main
bearing assembly (11).
(4)
Remove key (12).
(5)
Remove the screws (13) and washers
(14) securing the retainer to the housing; remove
retainer (15) and rear seal gasket (16).
(6)
Disassemble the rear components
from the shaft. Remove locknut (17), washer (18), wear
ring (19), seal (20), key (21), washer (22), bearing (23)
and cup (24).
(7)
Remove the screws (25) and washers
(26) securing the retainer to the housing, and remove
retainer (27); remove from seal gasket (28).
(8)
Disassemble front shaft components.
Remove seal (29), wear ring (30), nonmetallic washer
(31), cone and roller (32), and cup (33) from the cylinder
drive shaft (34).
(9)
Remove packings (35 and 36).
(10) Remove plug (37 and 38) from main
bearing housing (39).
