b. Cleaning.
WARNING
Clean all parts in a well-ventilated
area. Avoid inhalation of solvent
fumes and prolonged exposure of
skin to cleaning solvent. Wash
exposed
skin
thoroughly.
Dry
cleaning solvent (Fed. Spec. P-D-
680) used to clean parts is potentially
dangerous
to
personnel
and
property. Do not use near open
flame or excessive heat. Flash point
of solvent is 100 to 138F. (38 to
59C.).
Clean all metal parts with cleaning solvent, Fed.
Spec. P-D-680, and dry thoroughly.
c. Inspection and Repair.
(1) Inspect all parts for wear, defects and
damage.
(2) Replace all worn, defective, and/or
damaged parts.
d. Assembly and Installation.
(1) Install the hub (31, fig. 7-21) and
sheave pulley (30) and secure with lockwashers (29)
and capscrews (28).
(2) Install the brake levers (25 and 26) on
the brake support (27) and secure with pin (24) and
cotter pins (23).
(3) Install the studs (22) and brake shoe pins
(21), if removed.
(4) Install new brake linings (20) and secure
with rivets (19).
(5) Install the brake shoes (18) and springs
(17) and secure with slotted nuts (16) and cotter pins
(15).
(6) Install the brake stabilizer (14) and
secure with slotted washers (13), capscrews (12), nuts
(11) and setscrews (10).
(7) Install the air brake cylinder (9) and
secure with studs (8), slotted nuts (7), cotter pins (6) and
spring (5).
(8) Install the brake assembly (4) and
secure with flatwashers (3), lockwashers (2) and
capscrews (1).
7-14. Brake Air Cylinder
a. Disassembly.
(1) Remove the setscrew (1, fig. 7-22) and
remove the rod end piston (2) from rod (10).
(2) Remove the setscrew (3) and remove
the lower cylinder head (4).
(3) Pull out the rod unit, then remove the nut
(5) from the rod end, and remove the piston cup (6),
gasket (7), lubricator (8) and collar (9) from the rod (10).
(4) Remove the upper cylinder head (11)
and gasket (12) from the air cylinder tube (13).
