Cleaning.
WARNING
Clean all parts in a well-ventilated
area. Avoid inhalation of solvent
fumes and prolonged exposure of
skin to cleaning solvent. Wash
exposed
skin
thoroughly.
Dry
cleaning solvent (Fed. 8pec. P-D-
680) used to clean parts is potentially
dangerous
to
personnel
and
property. Do not use near open
flame or excessive heat. Flash point
of solvent is 100 to 1380F. (38 to
590C).
(1)
Clean all bearings and seals using
light weight motor oil.
(2)
Clean remaining parts using cleaning
solvent, Fed. Spec. P-D-680, and dry thoroughly.

Inspection ad Repair.
(1)
Inspect the housing and caps for
cracks, dents, chips and other damage.
(2)
Inspect the bearings for cracks, burrs,
and binding.
(3)
Inspect the gaskets for tears, pitting,
and excessive wear.
(4)
Inspect the shafts for cracks, chips,
burrs, and other damage.
(5)
Inspect
all
hardware
for
thread
damage.
(6)
Unless
repair
is
possible
and
practical,
replacement
of
all
damaged
parts
is
recommended.

Assembly.
(1)
Install the pipe plug (32, fig. 3-6) on
the housing (33).
(2)
Install the woodruff key (30) in slot of
wormshaft (31), then press on bearings (28 and 29).
(3)
Install the shaft assembly (27) and
cap (26) into housing (33).
(4)
Install
the
gasket
(25),
bearing
retainer (24) and oil seal (23) and secure with
lockwashers (22) and bolts (21).
(5)
Install the keys (18 and 19) into slots
on the straight shaft (20).
(6)
Install the gear (17) on the straight
shaft and secure with setscrew (16).
(7)
Press the roller bearings (14 and 15)
onto the straight shaft (20).
(8)
Install the straight shaft assembly into
housing.
(9)
Install the gasket (13) and housing
cap (12)onto the housing (33) and secure with
lockwashers (11) and bolts (10).
(10) Install the seal (9) and wheel sprocket
(8) onto the straight shaft (20) and secure with setscrew
(7).
(11) Install the gage rod plug (6) in
housing (33), then install the oil bayonet gage (5).
(12) Install the pipe support (4), nut (3),
flatwashers (2) and nut (1) on housing.

Installation.
(1)
Position the speed reducer (8, fig. 3-
5) onto the dryer-tumbler and secure with bolts (7),
flatwashers (6), lockwashers (5) and nuts (4).
(2)
Install nut (3) to stabilizer.
(3)
Install the chain on tumbler-dryer,
then install the chain guard (2) and secure with screws
(1).
3-5. Tumbler Exhaust Duct Assembly.
a.
Removal. Remove the bolts (1, fig. 3-7)
and lockwashers (2) securing the tumbler exhaust duct
assembly (3) to the dryer-tumbler.
