The frame (1) is a single piece of black plastic that is anatomically molded to fit the wearer. It is a non-repairable
component and, if broken, must be replaced entirely.
The shoulder straps consist of several foam pads conforming to MIL-R-6130 (2) that are covered with textured
nylon duck material conforming to MIL-C-43734 (3). 2-inch nylon webbing conforming to MIL-W-4088 (4) is sewn
along the front of the straps as reinforcement. A 1 ½ -inch web cinch strap conforming to MIL-STD-17337 (5) is
used to secure the straps to the cross braces of the frame. One inch webbing conforming to MIL-W-43668 (6) is
used for the front suspension straps, lateral attachment straps, quick release straps, and hardware retention
loops. There are two quick release buckles conforming to DEI P/N 1584 (7), each with a 3 ½ -inch pull tab of 9/16-
inch webbing conforming to MIL-W-4088 (8). and snap fastener conforming to drawing 4-1-178 (81337) (9),
located at the lower end of the straps. Two sternum strap keepers, P/N SS25T (10), located above, keep the
lateral restraint and suspension straps separate. 1-inch side release buckles conforming to drawing 5-10-47
(81337) (11) and buckles conforming to drawing 2-6-101 (81337) (12) are used on the lateral restraint straps and
on top of the frame. Double bar buckles conforming to drawing 2-6-101A (13) are used on the lateral attachment
straps. The back pad end of the straps is secured with 1-inch binding tape conforming to MIL-T-5038 (14) using
Size E Thread conforming to V-T-295 (15). Except as indicated above, the shoulder straps are constructed using
Size F Thread conforming to V-T-295 (16). A 1 ½-inch buckle, P/n 154-0150-5614 (17) secures the suspenders to
the lower frame.
