The medical bag is constructed of textured nylon duck cloth conforming to MIL-C-43734 (1) with a clear
polyurethane backing. The bag includes two removable flap assemblies an inner pocket and shoulder straps, as
separable components.
A black plastic chain slide fastener conforming to A-A-55634, Type 1, Style 18, no. 10 class 1 (2) is used as main
compartment closure. The inside of the cover flap is lined with clear polyethylene conforming to L-P-378 (3),
forming a map case that is closed with 5/8-inch-wide hook and pile fastener tape conforming to MIL-F-21840 (4).
The edge of the map case is edged with 1-inch binding tape conforming to MIL-T-5038 (5). Separate pockets of
olive drab 107 nylon raschel knit cloth conforming to MIL-C-8061 (6) are sewn into each of the four insides of the
main compartment using 1-inch binding tape (5). A 1-inch tunnel at the top of the pockets contains a ½-inch-wide
length of elastic webbing conforming to MIL-W-5664 (7), and two separate, 1-inch-wide hook fastener lengths
conforming to MIL-F-21840 (8) sewn to the outside of the tunnel. Two corresponding pile fastener lengths also
conforming to MIL-F-21840 (8) are sewn to the inside of the mesh pocket flaps, which are edged using 1-inch
binding tape (5).
On the outside, 1-inch webbing conforming to MIL-W-43668 (9) double loops are used to secure two 1-inch metal
loops conforming to MIL-L-11075 (10) and two 1-inch double bar buckles conforming to drawing 2-6-101 (81337)
(11) to the upper part of the bag. Two 1-inch male side release buckles conforming to drawing 5-10-47 (81337)
(12) are threaded onto the same loop extension. 1-inch webbing (9) is also used for a series of four attachment
straps bartacked to the side panels of the bag. Two of these straps are extended, with 1-inch male side release
buckles (12) threaded onto the ends which secure to corresponding female buckles secured similarly on the other
side. Two additional web loops (9) are sewn to the bottom of the bag, holding two 1-inch female side release
buckles (12). Two lengths of 1-inch webbing (9) are vertically sewn to the outside bottom of the bag, with 1-inch
male side release buckles (12) threaded to the ends.
Each of the two flap assemblies contains two mesh pockets of similar construction as those in the bag. The flap
assemblies are removed from the bag by disconnecting 1-inch side release buckles (12) on 1-inch webbing loops
(9), located at the edge of each assembly, and inside the bag. The webbing (9) on the flap assembly is extended
to form a handle between the loops. The flap assembly edges are lined with 1-inch binding tape (5).
The shoulder straps consist of foam pads conforming to MIL-R-6130 (13) covered with textured nylon duck
material (1). 1-inch webbing (9) is used for the front suspension straps, lateral attachment straps, quick release
straps, and hardware retention loops. There are 2 quick release buckles conforming to DEI P/N 1584 (14). A
sternum strap of 1-inch webbing (9) features keepers of the same material, 1-inch side release buckles (12), and
two double bar buckles (11). A waist belt of 1-inch webbing (9) closes with a 1-inch side release buckle (12)
The removable, inner pocket is constructed by sewing a 27-inch x 10-inch piece of nylon duck (1) onto a 12-inch x
13-inch piece of similar material, forming three pleats into separate pockets. The edges of the inner pocket and
the top of the pleated material are finished using 1-inch binding tape (5). A 2-inch length of 1 inch-wide hook
fastener tape (4) is sewn onto the upper part of each pleat. A 3 ½-inch length of 1-inch pile fastener tape (4) is
sewn onto a length of 1 inch-wide webbing (9) which, in turn, is bartacked to the pocket panel to serve as closure
for each of the pleat pockets. A sling made of 1-inch webbing (9) is sewn to one side and threaded through a 1-
inch brass loop conforming to (10) on the other side that is secured by a 1-inch webbing (9) loop. The strap has a
double bar
