UNIT MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
Figure 1. CK Winch Cable
The winch cable should be replaced if any of the following conditions exist:
a) There are more than three randomly distributed broken wires in one rope lay (see
Figure 1). There are three broken wires in one strand in one 10-foot length.
b) There is one broken wire from an inner strand that is not specifically visible externally,
but can be identified as it protrudes or loops out of the wire rope structure.
Refer to a following section for the cable replacement procedure.
If the winch cable is not binding or broken, the winch assembly may be defective. In normal
operation, the winch will make a clicking sound when the winch handle is rotated clockwise
(raise direction). No clicking sound will be heard when the winch handle is rotated
counterclockwise (lowering direction). Operation other than this indicates a malfunctioning winch
assembly and must be replaced.
NOTE
The winch handle may have to be turned up to 10 clockwise
revolutions before a clicking sound is heard. This is to ensure the
winch handle socket is fully secured. However, if after rotating the
handle clockwise for at least 10 revolutions a clicking sound is not
heard, the winch assembly should be replaced.
Refer to a following section for the winch replacement procedure.
Shelter and Awning Fabric: Any tears in the fabric or awning that permit water to penetrate
the shelter require maintenance. Follow the repair procedure described in the Repair section at
the end of this work package.
Exterior Drain Hose: Locate the source of drain hose leakage. If at the connector, check the
connector gasket. If warped or cut, replace the gasket. If the leak is in the hose part of the
assembly, the hose assembly will need to be replaced.
