CONTAINERIZED KITCHEN (WITH TRAILER)
UNIT MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
3. Roll the fabric along its length (2) (see Figure 7) until the fabric roll is as close to the shelter
as possible and still be lying on the wing floor where the wing is hinged to the shelter. Starting at
one end of the shelter, remove and retain the machine screws and mounting strips at the ends
(3) (see Figure 7) and along the top (4) (see Figure 7) of the shelter. After all hardware has
been removed, pull the fabric away from the shelter and remove the fabric side. The fabric may
be bonded with sealant to the shelter edge; if this is apparent, some force may be needed to
pull it loose from the shelter. Fold the fabric for disposal.
Fabric Side Replacement:
1. In an area free of rocks and other debris that may damage the fabric, completely unfold the
replacement fabric side, white side up. Determine the long edge of the fabric side that is to
be attached along the top of the shelter. The long edge (2) (see Figure 7) of the fabric that is
closest to the doors or windows attaches to the wing edge. The opposite long fabric edge
attaches to the shelter top (4) (see Figure 7). First fold this top edge in half and mark the
center of the fabric with a black marker. Unfold the fabric with the white side up. Fold the
long edge of the fabric that is closest to the windows and doors and will attach to the wing.
Mark the center of the fabric with a black marker. Unfold the fabric with the white side up.
2. Starting at the long edge (2) (see Figure 7) of the fabric closest to the windows or doors
tightly roll the fabric up lengthwise. Window flap or door flap will be hanging toward the edge
that you roll. Place the rolled up fabric side on the shelter wing (1) (see Figure 7) and as
close to the shelter as possible.
3. Pull the top edge of the fabric up to the top edge of the shelter. The fabric should unroll on
the wing as the fabric is pulled up. Most of the weight of the fabric will still be on the wing
and most of the fabric will still be rolled up. Align the fabric center mark that was located
previously with the shelter middle arch cup.
4. Two soldiers are required to support the weight of the fabric, position the fabric and
mounting strips while a third soldier, begins installation of the hardware.
NOTE
It is very important to correctly line up the middle of the fabric to the
middle of the shelter. If the fabric is not aligned correctly, the fabric will
not fit or seal properly to the shelter. Make sure that the fabric is not
bunched-up or overlapped.
Before securely attaching the fabric, make sure the fabric side is not
inside out or upside down. This is determined by checking: a) that the
white side of the fabric is visible from the interior of the CK and the
green/tan side is visible from the exterior, and b) that the door or window
flaps attach at the top and the flaps can be rolled up from the bottom.
