INTRODUCTION
The only authorized repair on the ice axe is sharpening the tips with a metal file.
REPAIR
WARNING
Wear eye protection and gloves when using a file to sharpen the tips of equipment. Failure to
comply with this warning may lead to injury or death to personnel.
CAUTION
Do not use a grinding wheel to sharpen the ice axe. Doing so may cause damage to the
equipment.
1. Don protective gloves and eyewear. Place the item firmly into the vise, using the protective jaws.
2. Sharpen the pick from the sides, toward the tip, with a file held at a 20-degree angle.
